| The Mainecoon is one of the oldest natural North American breeds and is the official cat of the state of Maine. This breed is hardly having originated in the hostile weather conditions of New England. Myth regarding the Mainecoon is that it develope from crossing between cats and raccoons or between pre-existing shorthaired domestic cats and overseas longhairs ( perhaps Angora types introduced by New England seamen or longhairs brought to America by the Vikings). This breed is people-oriented but does not demand all your attention. Size A full-grown Mainecoon can be armful; males can reach as much as 25 pounds, females somewhat less, although the average is 12 to 15 pounds for males and 9 to 12 pounds for females. On average, it takes three to four years to reach its full size. It's sweet disposition and large size combine fittingly for its nickname, " Gentle Giant". |
